Public Involvement

Current activities include ongoing regular meetings with community representatives (Technical Advisory Group or TAG), public meetings, and periodic newsletters. The Public Involvement Plan (PIP) for the site is currently being updated. Copies of presentations, posters, and meeting summaries can be downloaded from this page.

Varian is committed to keeping the local community informed about cleanup progress at the site.

Technical Advisory Group (TAG)

The TAG consists of specific stakeholders from the local community, including the Mayor of Beverly, state elected officials, and representatives of the community group Voices of Concern (VOC) North Beverly. The TAG meets with representatives of the Varian technical team regularly. Click on the meeting date for copies of TAG presentations:

Public Meetings

Public meetings will be held periodically and as required by the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP) process. Copies of presentations, posters, and/or other meeting materials can be found under each meeting date.

Phase II Comprehensive Assessment Addendum – to be submitted by 9/23/2022

  • Describes the results of the additional investigations
  • Public meeting: October 2022
  • Public comment period to follow the public meeting

Phase III Remedial Action Plan – to be submitted by 12/7/2022

  • Update to supplement previous Phase III Remedial Action Plan submitted in August 2001
  • Presents the evaluation of cleanup methods and recommends a cleanup approach
  • Public meeting: January 2023
  • Public comment period to follow the public meeting
